People with disabilities and specials needs are one of the largest unreached communities in the nation. About 56.7 million people—19% of the U.S. population—had a disability in 2010. More than half reported the disability was severe, and only 5 to 10% of the world’s disabled are reached with the gospel.
Over 80% of churches in the U.S. lack a special needs ministry. Children with special needs likely never attend worship services, and more than half of special needs parents reported that their child with a disability had been excluded at church. The All People Initiative helps equip churches to better serve those with disabilities and special needs by providing resources, networking opportunities and trainings.
“We started our ministry by serving one family. We had somebody else teaching a lesson for one student and from there we trusted God’s plan and today, over a decade later, we have a major ministry.” —Beth Castile
